hi VJF,
I've recently got some feedback
about a few DVD demos I've sent around,
saying there were some errors on them,
after a few minutes' watch...
the problem is how can I tell if they're working fine
on my computer as well as my dvd player?
FYI,
I'm using DVD Studio Pro
and at the moment problems have been reported
on 1 track auto-play auto-loop demos
without any menu...
and my media at the moment is
EMTEC 4.7GB 120 min 1-4x single sided DVD-R
any suggestions? :)

I'm not sure theres a lot you can do about it! I know when cd-r's first came out people reccomended burning masters a 1x to allow the most power to the laser, so maybe the same with DVDr's?
I've had problems reported from disks I've burnt, despite playing on all my players. I have noticed more errors with older players, even ones that used to be happy with DVDr's, so it could be a dirty lens thing.
Short of glass mastering and duplication, I dont think there are any solutions!

DVD-R technology is unfortunately pretty weak...
My wife and I made a selection for a short-film festival recently, most entries where DVDs. I got a desktop Pioneer DVD player, an iBook and a Dell laptop. Most DVDs read well, but some of them just read in one of the three.
You are using a good brand DVD. Maybe try Verbatim, if they have a problem with an EMTEC, try to send another one.

ARe the errors of the standalone players or inside teh computers?
I always got the impression that +R's are better as they have more compatability but mayeb I am totally wrong on this. I am sure that is one of the reasons I bought a DVD+R DVD recorder.

PCM audio is often a culpret. I've had better compatability using AC3 audio. Also the longer the disc the more likely it is to be unreadable by more dvd players.
