View Full Version : Wonderful Cheap Screens

For a long while I was scouring the web, yellow pages, friends & contacts for good screens that didn't cost the earth. I failed, failed & failed again. I was really keen to get hold of some though, because I knew they could really increase the brightness/clarity of my projections.

So I decided to try and find out how to make them. After an equally arduous search for the raw materials, and the contacts to get them from, I am now in a position to make and sell custom size, hand made super duper screens! The specs [highly technical here] are:

# true white, screen grade PVC surface.

# wipe clean - no more sticky stains!

# anti UV reflective [This makes a huge difference in clubs with UV lighting all over the shop]

# highly durable, tough canvas wrapped rubber edging. [see diagram below]. Heat sealed onto the screen.

# lets virtually no ambient light through, but yet is still suitable for back projection with a half decent projector [1500+ lmns]

# custom sizes/aspect ratio

# CHEAP PRICE! ?15.00 per square mtr +Edging strip @ ?8.00 per mtr. so for a 2m x 1.5m screen [4:3 aspect ratio] the cost would be ?101.00. I could be persuaded to throw in a VJCentral discount to ?100.00 if you wanted this size :D

I can supply the material without the edging work if you like, but the edging material looks really good, & it'll make the screen last a long time.

We hang ours with s-hooks and chains which I bought from B&Q, I can sell you them too if theres no B&Q nearby, but you may as well pick them up yourselves. My price for the s-hooks is ?5.00. And nice black small link chain is ?5.00 per mtr.

what's the rubber insert in the diagram? Is that at the corners for hanging, or is that what gives it rigidity? These are square/rectangle, right? Are they collapseable? (hard to put 8'x6' screens in my hatchback!) You say they can be back projected with a 1500+ lumen projector, so I take it that means they're a lot better suited to front projection? (I have an 1100 that should be fine for rear projection on any screen made for it) Pictures, pictures! =]

Sounds awesome, I'm definitely going to be interested eventually, but it's hard to justify when I get 12'x9' fastfolds for $20ea rental right now... =]

I knew there was one more bullet point to put down but I couldn't remember what it was. Yes they are fire proof!

The rubber insert runs all the way around the edge of the screen, it gives the screens rigidity when hanging, but still enables you to roll/fold them. We roll ours up and stick em in the back of my Peugeot 206.

Yes they are better suited to front projection, but I think I can get thinner PVC which would be ideal for back projection.

Pictures Soon!

Awesome, so you can just like roll them up into a tube? Man, that's even better than fast fold! =] Please keep us updated, I'm thinking I'll buy 2 or 4 in the next 6 months...

oh yeah, another thing. You can have a big cardboard tube with caps to put it in for around ?15.00 depending on the size of the screen.

just a note to say we're still selling these screens, and very nice they are too. but unfortunately my supplier of tubes has fell through, so i can no longer supply the card board tubes to go with them, well until i find another supplier anyway.

the screens are grrrrrreat though!

I want I want I want!

Has your life slowed down a bit these days dave? I'm a bit poor post-AVIT euro tour, but I'd still like to try to spec out exactly what these would cost me so I can save. And as mentioned before, I'll handle the shipping, picked up from your place.

Having purchased 2 screens from this likely lad over a year ago, I think I should put a word in.
These screens have been nothing but good news, I am disgusted with their constant use of no hassle and stay clean looks.
I was fully expected to be inconvenienced and left with a feeling of being ripped off.
Unfortunately, the cardboard tubes still have the their end bits, which I thought would be the first thing to suffer.
Can this boy get anything wrong.
Thanks for nothing....bad.

Todd

ps looks good too.
