Lo all,
Not sure where to put this post btw...
Anyways, I've just got back from Glastonbury and it was amazing as ever.
This year I spent a lot time in the Dance Village, and was pleased to see a fair amount of live VJ'ing for most DJ's. I don't remember this from last year, so it must mean that VJ'ing is becoming more and more well known.
I was just wondering if anyone else either:
a) went to Glastonbury and saw some of the VJ sets
b) Was a VJ at Glastonbury
Once again I'm not sure where this post is supposed to go...

gig reports is the right place for it.
Can you remember any specifics about what you saw? Who had the best visuals? Any particular images that stuck in your memory?

i must say that i was quite disappointed with almost all the visuals i saw.
admittedly, i didn't spend massive amounts of time in the dance area or glade, so am sure i missed lots of interesting stuff, but what i did see at the glade was cheesy mid 90s style visuals, with seemingly no link between the sound from the speakers, and the visuals on the screens.
lost vagueness was my fave bit again this year, tho very busy.
so what did i miss that was good?

Well I can't actually remember any names at all...but some of the late stuff I liked...did you perform there?
I wasn't on here to report on what I saw, just see if anyone was there :P

Give us a clue which music acts you liked and maybe then it will be easier to link that to the VJs.
I didn't play but from what I've heard at Glasto very little (no) money changes hands for the VJs. Until this changes I doubt I'll be there anytime soon.

myself and the other guys i met playing in our tent were all getting paid. not the best money but kinda average. but seeing as i blew my car up on the way down and then hired a car to get there, the weekend turned out to be a very expensive one for me....
it was all great fun, but i did get the impression that as often is the case , video was the last thought about thing in my west dance tent especially. 1 video projector covering only the middle of this large oval shaped screen, which looked kinda strange. the east dance tent was slightly better with 3 large screen and 2 outside. the roots tent at one point there was just left a dvd player's welcome message flying around the screen during someones act. id spirals outdoor projections looked wicked on the first night, but must have got ravaged by thursday night crazy storms.
.. ah the knee high mud on friday . what fun!!

Well I saw Two Lone DJs on Friday evening in the East tent and liked those visuals, Saturday I remember seeing Dreadzone and Sunday I saw Mylo (I also spent a lot of time there without knowing what I was watching)...
And yeah ID Spiral was awesome.

I worked on Fat Boy Slim's LED screen on the second stage on Friday- the biggest ever seen at Glastonbury. It looked fantastic and the sound of the generator revving up as the brightness was turned up made me smile.

the stuff you did for fatboyslim was cool - properly impressive visual spectacle (and I was just watching a shot bit on TV)
Much better than what I heard of his set, which was pretty uninspiring.
Were you involved with the 3d side of it as well?

The visuals for FatBoySlim kicked ass mate...loved them :yep: his set was pretty cool, more him DJ'ing than his music, but I guess he prefers that...

Hey we had a great time if not a bit on the muddy side
I did video for a few hours at the glade on some nights, and at the dreadzone gig in the dance village...
ralph did the installation at idspiral, see pics below and he VJ'd along with a few other artists there most nights, I did one indian themed set there too.
I missed the fat boy slim setup as i was working elsewhere - looks amazing from that picture, nice one!
The craziest event of the festival for me was the marquee 20 meters away from where i was camping back stage at ID Spiral was struck by lightning and collapsed at about 7am, the whole weather situation was a bit of a nightmare really, but the sun came out in the end and all was lovely by sunday...

I was just involved in building and running the Fatboy screen. The content was provided by his own vj who did the Brighton beach stuff too. (That's not to say I couldn't do it. It's just that it's far easier to earn a living looking after big LEDs like this these days. The gigs tend to be a bit bigger budget too. My bed sheet days are well and truly over!)

well, it's good that there's some serious budgets going down for visuals...though I suspect most of it is directed towards the techy part of it and not towards the VJ's themselves... all good and well having giant led screens, but a bit of a waste when the content's lacking to inspire...
Saw bits of the Fatboy gig on telly and to be honest there wasn't a hell of a lot going on visually....lot's of smiley faces floating about (predictable iconography) and a giant ghetto blaster with pulsing speakers...
I think it was a good advert for visuals supporting DJ sets, as people are going to take note and imitate & improve...

I made it down for sunday (us locals can just come down for the day) so missed most of the mud.
For the first time in about 4 years i watched the headline n the pyramid; Basement Jaxx, and I thought their visuals were pretty damn dull. Their LED screen looked totaly shafted too. Very good set though.
I saw Fatboy slim's set on TV, it looked ok, they were doing what looked like some cleverish feedback stuff, but didn't make too big a deal of it. I would have liked to have been there, though apparently the mud was seriously bad, still was on sunday too. People have said the sound wasn't great either.
Still, great festival, great pear cider :D

Check out the Big Chill Festival for good visuals. The festival actually treats VJ's as if they were part of the artist line up. Unlike mainstream festivals such as Glastonbury the visuals are an integral part of the Big Chill festival.
Have a look at the VJ line up by checking out the link below

Hadn't been to Glastonbury for a couple of years so was great to be back and see the new stuff like Lost Vaugness and Dance Village.
Saw quite a few of the old 'Megadog' stylee bands in the West tent like Eat Static, System7, Banco De Gaia and was nice to see they all had visuals, the light shows are usually good at Glastonbury but of course the visuals really top it off! Only bad point I would say is that some of the lights did go over the projection screen, did the VJs try and sort this out?
Banco De Gaia also seemed to have his own VJ on stage with him as well extra projection screens.

Was seriously considering going to Big Chill, but found out I'm on holiday then...so may catch it next year. Any other festivals that focus on good music and VJ's? I was thinking of the Glade maybe, that any good?

Visuals for 2manydjs were great, I really enjoyed that. Although I did really enjoy Fatboy slim's set and the defracted glasses with smily faces worked very well indeed. Nice touch.
