I knew it was going to happen. I had only hoped I would have had a little more time. I started out as a bartender a few years ago after getting out of the Army. ( I was in 82nd airborne for 10 years). It was a place in which the owner could not afford a DJ. This was a bar that was no more than 20 feet by 30 feet in the worst part Fresno, California. It was a place in which no one had ever even HEARD of a VJ. We played movies on the video screen early in the day. One of the owners (they were gay lovers) had a penchant for classic movies (God bless Him), but more often than not, we showed comedy clips, or music videos, or gay porn while playing a never ending loop of the same old tired classic rock CDs. I had always had an insatiable technolust, and had taught myself programming back in the early 80s. My first expreience with computers was pascal for the apple II in 1980. If I wanted to play a game, I had to make it myself. Well I wanted to make an automated system of music videos or video clips, along with a smattering of advertisement. It had been several years since I had even touched c++, but I gave it my best shot. I found the the MultiVMR9 example in the DirectX SDK and made it into ShatterStar. I gave it plugins, and I gave it scripting. I'm HIV positive now, and after a year of work on it, my medication makes it nearly impossible for me to continue on my own. I'm going to do my best to clean it up and release it as Open Source. Can someone help me before I completely lose my mind?

I'm sorry to hear that things are so hard.

My technical writing is better than my C++ so I can offer a few hours (at least) writing documentation (which will be required if the project is to be accessible to other developers).

What development environment are you using? (I use VS 6 and VS.NET)

email/pm/whatever
I don't know how things will work out over distance (no face to face meet really possible) but should be OK.

I'd like to help.

I can't promise that I can commit to anything long term, or that I will have the right skills to take this project to where you would like it to get to.

I can promise that I will have a proper look at where you are and contribute in any way that I can.

Maybe someone from the OpenTZT effort could advise on the best steps to take to get a VJ app into an open source development model

Dan.

Sounds like a great program and there's be so many uses for it! I can't even use a calculator so I'm no help except as cheering squad!

Yeah TEAM!

I don't know about cleaning up the code, but you can signup over @ sourceforge and start a project there. Upload your code, cut and paste your description from here and see if you get any other interested parties. It can be a real adventure kicking off an open source project....

Well i'm not expert coder, but i would definetly have a look throught the code if you decide to open source it.

Is it pure c++, or does it conatain some ASM?
(i suck with ASM)
But from the sounds of it you have written it for DX9, which is a very good start.

I would definetly encourage you to releasse the source code, at worst it might give others good ideas for plugins, at best it might get continued development far inot the future,

again what Dev. environment do you use to work on it?
whats your target hardware?

Cheers,

My thoughts and prayers are with you.

I haven't done much work with Pixel shaders but I am doing more and more in recent times and I'll assist where I can.

Sourceforge is the obvious route to go down. There is no problems even releasing messy code on there.

Just wanted to with you the best of luck with your health struggle.

Technically I hardly know my DirectX from my DirectOR but as mentioned previously, releasing code on SourceForge seems the best way to get started.
