Hi everyone.

I have begun research into developing a low cost, ?out-of-the-box? content management and steaming server software package.

What this IS
?all-in-oneder?- server and content management system.

What This IS NOT
Another piece of VJ software, there is already plenty of great ones about.
Markget
low-end ?gorilla? producers of both audio and video content.
Charities
Schools, Universities
Individuals: film makers, VJs, DJs, unsigned bands etc
Local / community radio or TV stations
Ideas
manual, automatic, semi-automatic scheduling.
Intelligent automated ad-placements
Live input
Modular production suite
Remote live input
Dedicated client software
Client software for emote devices
Real-time switching of resolution, aspect ratio, frame rate
Automatic Recording of all output (including live).
Close caption system
Alternative audio streams
Sign language option ? added live of from archive.
Flexible, extendible billing models
Lots more
Specific question (for now)
Managed service of package?
Other similar products/services on the market?
Experiences of similar product/services.
What's in it for me?
I think there is a gap in the market and a big demand.
This demand can only grow with the growth of both the internet, ADSL, and mobile devices.
The real, immediate, reason: I need to find a final year project for my degree, and I?m not into taking the easy route.
What's in it for you?
Because if all goes well, once it is done, I will let everyone that helps me out, have it free.
And because you are lovely people :p
What I?m asking for
Your help, input, feed back, suggestions, ideas, musings, requirements, demands, thoughts, warnings etc etc.

Thanks for taking the time to get this far, all comments are very welcome, I really hope this is going to get somewhere. Its something I?ve been wanting to do for years.

Cheers again

The idea is very good, a I have seen so many threads of people asking for a player program with a "flavor", the flavors being randomness, live cams, etc.

I think the part you need to workout more is the interface. It should be versatile, powerful AND easy to use!

Good luck!

My little warning is that you might want to focus on one part of the system and do it very well, making it very extensible (so you can build on it after this year, or others can build on it).

If you try to do it all you may find that the time you spend on gui or extra features takes from the time required to build a solid product.

Quality counts in your project (if you can convey this well in your report).

I handed in my project about 3 weeks ago, and it was a great relief to have it done. (Was in high res video capture and distribution for learning establishments).

Anyway, good luck with it.

great!
1. option to make the mouse on the screen disappear. for vga/scanconverter users.

2. for matrox-dvdmax/ ati and nvidia theathermode users: when you are playing a fullscreen clip over the tv-output and you switch to the next clip, there is a glitch of the desktop or black screen. maybe you can look at avoiding that with your soft.

good luck
