View Full Version : Humkillers, Video-amps and simple matrixes : WHO's INTERESTED ???

So...

Now that I've got your attention.
On this very moment, I'm finishing some nice video-applications:
Since they weren't available, I had to make 'em myself ...
You never would expect them to ever exist :

Low priced humkillers
Low priced 1in 4out Video-amplifiers
Low priced Videomatrix
(don't know the config on those yet)

Well ... as low priced as i'll get them to be ...
I would like to know if ther's anyone interested in having one off them. That means : i have to make the pcb's and buy the ingredients for this electronics soup. If you're interested, let me know.
I know you all would die to get your hands on one of those fancy 250 ? humkillers, well here's yer chance to have one for a fraction of that price. Lemme know folks, mail or call me ...

sure i'm interested, especially in the matrixes and amps.
any more info re price and, more important, quality of these parts?

Count me in on the Christmas sale, I 'll take a box set.
Ps. If you wanna kill your hum then I suggest prevention, not cure; but they are useful if someone else is plugged in and you're going live (sic)

sorry for asking but : What`s a humkiller? sth to amplify the signal?

And another for a matrix possibly.

A humkiller (humbucker) removes signal noise due to ground loops. Ground loops can be caused in a number of ways. The main culprit is different, interconnected devices using different electrical circuits. Hum will show up as an audio static sound or as a video 'roll' (a slow rolling horizontal variation in the output). It can also be caused when certain devices are ungrounded and other devices are grounded. Not a common occurance, but when it happens, it pisses you off...

Yeah ... i must admit that i'm already dreaming of controlling them through rs232... But i'll have to learn how to walk before i can run ...

I've done a lot of research on the chips made by MAXIM. They make a lot of great matrix and cross-point-chips. if you go and have a look on this site, you'll see that they have a whole shitload of video-applications.

http://www.maxim-ic.com/MaximProducts/Video/video-ics.htm

It was because i found one of the chips in a shop in Antwerp (which is right where i live, but this means : Belgium).
That I started thinking. So : I have here in front of very own face a selfmade 8x2 matrix based on two max455's. you can operate it by using a few buttons to make simple routings.
I'd say : total cost to make this matrix : +/-125 euros.
Which is NOT specifically low. I mean : the ships are not really cheap, and before you have a machine that is working fine ans operator-friendly, you'd have to spend a whole lot more.
I must admit that a small matrix I have here is nothing compared to let's say ... this little beauty :

http://www.maxim-ic.com/quick_view2.cfm?qv_pk=3210&ln=

So if you're a bit handy : buy the chip and start soldering away...
Let's say that my enthusiastic start was a bit 'wishfull thinking'.

What is NOT so wishfull thinking is the videodistributors I'm working on. I have one here I built a few years ago. It's a 1 in 16 out. Okay okay I know you don't need 16 outputs, but hey, it was the clients question back then. So the chip we used for that videodistributor/amplifier was the ELC2099 made by elantec (or EL2099C... have to check). And what do you guess : obsolete by now. So that was a bummer, because it's a chip that was working fine. Bugger...
So I found the suggested replacements for that chip, but they're also impossible to find.
What we have found recently is an SMD-version of those chips. They have been ordered, so they should be available one of these weeks in the shop in antwerp. And i had to order 50 pieces, so there'll be enough for anyone.
A distributor like that (maybe less outputs, so you'll need less connectors, which is less money) you can build for let's say 30 ?. And then you have a machine that's working fine. Not some crappy molynx or Kramer shit-box.

And for the groundloop-killer : tests are still going on (really !!!)
I know it's not really much but ...

what ever happened to this thread Dronkie??
I have a tour that I wish to carry a hum killer with me.

Is there still an option on Hum killers or does anyone know a few links to find a commercial product.
thanks in advance

www.allenavionics.com - they are fairly expensive but worth their weight in gold...

if you don't want to buy then i have a couple that i'd be willing to hire out.

Thanks Tom,
not being a regular user it might suit to hire them from you although I have submitted a request with this company
are yours composite or Y/C

sleepytom
22nd June 2006, 04:24 PM
composite - they'll do Y/C with Y cables though...
