Hi guys

I have the opportunity to buy a new canon DV500 for 750 euro, maybe even less. has anybody any experience with this piece of equipment? is it any good? for me it's just to have a camera that i can easily transfer the footage to my computer with. but the footage should be usable in vj-sets of course. anybody has any suggestions for me, in more or less the same price range? and if i didn't have a budget to consider?

great cam - high zoom (360x digital) - lot of fx - i heard about that you can easily drag in your analog cam (or video) and capture it in realtime (on mini-dv) ... i think its a good price but have a look at ebay ...

Thx for the reply slike! Do you know anything about the quality of the analoge images that you can run trough the camera? Are they any good? And i know that they don't deliver a computerconnector with it, but it is possible to hook this thingie up i hope?

quality of analog content is as good as your analog source ...
thats why a digi-cam is so much better for recording - but for "older" content its a good way to capture it (without loosing any frames) ...

for pc-connection you have to buy a firewire-card...
or your can easily connect your composite out (cam) to your composite in of your pc. That means your must have a tv-card (with composite-in) or a digital-capture-card in your pc ...
but thats just experimental ways to get the content ...for example: with a tv-card you can?t capture full-frames with full-resolution ... thats only a way to get analog content in your pc without any firewire or so ...

but in case of buying a digicam you have to buy a firewire-card and you will be happy ;) ... the mv500 have very complex functionalities in a user-friendly way ...
i thought about buying one (on ebay: ~500EUR)... perhaps next years it?ll be a little bit cheaper ...

hope that helps a bit ...

thx for the replies guys!

yes it's the canon dv-mv500, not the 500i. I know it hasn't got a DV-IN functionality, but i thought that could be overcome by a widget. trouble is that i can't find a widget or anything that does the trick on the MV-500... i'm not gonna buy one if i can't fix this, so i would be very greatfull if anybody came up with a solution!
