yeah, but you have to speed up the boring footage of radiation damage on people to get some funky action. and most of it is b/w so you have to colorize!

for more impact, you could throw in some napalm bombing. shots of people hit by cluster bombs and landmines are very funny too and great for scratching!

Yeah, drawing a colorful, gyrating line in AfterEffects to highlight the people that are being napalm bombed is a great idea.

Just remember that using Nukes in visuals is the writing equivalent of "worstest" or "mostest awesome". Great for hyperbole, but rarely something anyone will take seriously.

______

I recently watched Dr.S again ( wanted to see cowboy bomb scene ) and I was amazed how relevant it is to modern situations

It would be a tragedy* for all humanity to end because of the warhawkish attitudes of a single country ( take your pick! ) but that could easily happen.

*call it "the ultimate tragedy"

I'd like to see the (developed) world end because of the warhawkish attitudes of Antarctican penguins pissed off with oil greedy scummers. :poke:

No-one wants to see bombs going off when they are dancing, having a good time, off their head, feeling joy with the world. Nobs to that

What kind of crowd you playing to that would appreciate shit they've seen used out of context a thousand times before?
AngstMetal?Cohen?RnB?

Ack.

Balls, I've used 'em for years and not had a slipped cog yet!

Look at the amount of posts above this that are completely off-topic -

this thread is in the right board to ask for content,

any threads that are not directly replying as to the thread starter are 100% off-topic,

so that means that the twats making the complaints about the subject matter are the ones who diverted this thread,

not me - because I was replying only to what they had posted here -

which hasn't been moved with the rest of the topic.

Are there special politics that kick into play just in case anyone asks for nuke pictures and videos - you're allowed to go waaaay off topic there, except for if you mention free energy, then it gets moved to a separate thread to make it seem like you actually had any connection at all to starting a thread like that.

Fucking load of double standards and deliberate mixing up of intent.

And - yet more reason to nuke it all.

'Oh don't nuke it, then people won't be able to use their double standards and annoy you with their bullshit and useless eater lies, then they won't be able to not build any inventions that work and continue to pay giant electric bills using up all the fossil fuels just to promote their tired rubbish useless shit that they call art of some kind'

oh yeah, what a loss..........

Oh please. When offtopic parts of the thread begin to choke the "subject" of the thread it is time to split the new (off)topic to it's own space. It's not being locked in the basement or sent off to live in the country, and it's NOT being deleted. It's given it's own little planter pot to grow in. That way, should anyone still be concerned with the original topic they can continue to use it. The new topic can also continue without anyone bitching about "offtopicness".

Since the search function only delivers thread titles as answers this is the BEST way to mine the forums for information. It's like weeding a garden, and your forum hosts motherfuckin THANKYOUr ungrateful ass for you goddamn cooperation.

I guess it is now BAD TASTE to show nukes according to the old teacup rattlers. From now on you must only show teddybears, flowers, and hippies having mudsex at woodstock.

Does this mean cartoon explosions are also verboten? Dang, there goes my Gatchaman remix.

speaking of hippies...i have a clip from Mars Attacks where a hippie releases a white dove, and as it flies in slow motion over the crowd it is fried by a laser and falls to the ground smoking...
its great!!

i think you just need to be really careful when using images like nuclear explosions, because it's just too serious a subject/idea. of course, it's not "verboten", but you'll make an ass out of yourself if you don't recognise the full meaning of it and employ such graphics accordingly

Interesting.
Obviously context is everything in this case.
Also, there's the inherent "who's the viewer?" issue in most nuke footage.
Much more poignant for victims rather than perpetrators.
As an example, Takashi Miikers "Dead or Alive" has a fairly ridiculour Nuke go off in it. I'd hasten to bet that was a much more meaningful symbol in Japan that the little Predator pseudo -nuke in "Predator" at the end.

I'd say the standard "US nuke test" is currently associated as a rather glum and ugly reminder of our past. A nuke has an inherent urgency of karmic return, which the creators and deliverers of Hiroshima must accept as their legacy. The actions of our ancestors don't just disappear with their deaths.

Recently, "The Day After" was playing on TV. Does anyone remember that?
When I was in elementary school, it was sort of a big deal. It's basically about a nuke attack on the USA, and what happens to people after it all goes down. As a child, who was already afraid Mr. Reagan was going to push the button, it was pretty haunting. We were required to talk about it the next day in class...

One of the most moving and memorable scenes from it is not violent. It's basically scenes of normal people doing their everyday thing. Driving to work, going to a ball game, etc...but superimposed in the sky are 3-4 long white smoke trails leaving the earth. People pull over on the highway to look at them. People enjoying a baseball game look up and see the streaks over the stadium...and they start to get the idea that their world is about to be over.

Just thinking about that image still give me the chills. (shudder)

I think if I was enjoying the dance floor, and someone showed me this, I'd stop dead in my tracks, and then soon after, go home. :(

the same old H-bomb test footage seems to have been a staple of mid-90's VJ-ing, maybe much earlier, and probably worked nicely for sets with Ministry or what have you.

Some of the old VHS tapes we have are full of mushroom clouds.

so thats what it means to me in a VJ context- 5th gen VHS dubs from another era.

Nowadays, unfortunately. its dead serious as the U.S. has a regime that seems intent on breaking the taboo against the offensive use of nuclear weapons.
