Hey optix,

i am talking with a manager of a group, he said in his reply:
"i am interested in your proposal.
Fee is 8000 ? + 11 flights from London + PA + accommodation.Attached band's rider"

Fee = 8000 euros , ok!
- What does he mean by 11 flights from - - - London (its a british band, but what the $@#@ 11 flights?????)
- PA =?
- Band's rider = ?

i dont want to ask him, not to make him think i am ignorant.

Anyone knows the jargon?

I think he is paying for your travel and hotel. It's a tour, right?

Ahh, I got it backwards. YOU are expected to pick up the fees for 11 roundtrip flights from London and back.... Plus hotel for 11(?) people. If the band is 5 people, there are 6 additional people who set up their gear, manager, girlfriends, groupies, fluffers, etc.

PA could be either production assistant (but I'm guessing that is covered under the 11 people), or Public Address system: in other words, the sound system, mixers, monitors, speakers, et al.

The band's rider will be all the crap they need in their dressing room (food, bottle water, champaigne, green M&Ms, etc)

Beware the bands rider!

Drink and food tend to be a small part of the rider.
Usually it contains everything you are expected to provide for the show, including technical.
And that can run into big money!

Yeah, riders can also spell out the conditions underwhich the band will refuse to play. In the tour I was just on a DJ had a rider that no video or lights would play during his set.

Another DJ (I think it was MixMasterMike from California) had in his rider that the producers would give him a "special gift of the producer's choosing left in the dressing room". Har har. It was meant to be playful I'm sure, but it sent the producers into a tizzy. Corporate types hate to be put on the spot to make their own decisions -- probably why MMM did it, just to tweek their personality.:P

Yup - you want to check and double-check the rider before signing it off, they can contain pretty much anything. Most bands have a separate technical rider, and make sure, again, that it's watertight and fully agreed from both sides (Promoter AND Artist) a gig can easily be cancelled if these "little" details are not sorted.

These days with so many jackasses in charge of production and booking.. I don't know how many times unrealistic riders have come across my desk with no approval and no signature.. Anyways my favorite rider item would have to be "a circus monkey" - think it was one of the hallucination guys.
