The Diesel U Music competition is in its closing stages.
Get your VJ entries in by June 6th. Your entry needs to be 5 to 15 minutes long, on VHS, DVD or mini DV. The entries are being judged by Addictive TV.
The winner will have their mix played live at the Diesel Music awards on the 22nd July at Canvas Kings Cross and may be filmed for Channel 4. Ongoing collaborations with Diesel and Addictive are also available.

I'm afraid only UK based VJs can enter the competition.
Send your entries to Diesel U Music, 55 Argyle Street, London, WC1H 8EE. You need to include an entry form which can be downloaded at

Any problems or questions get straight back to me.
Good Luck

Again this comp confuses me.
I underrstand from speaking to many VJ's at AVIT that this is a newbie VJ competetion. IS this correct still as you make no mention of it in your post to this forum.

err its for "unsigned" artists - quite what this means in terms of VJs is unclear.
i imagine that 99% of uk vjs that post on here are able to enter - i also imagine that some of the better VJs feel that they are above entering such contests. maybe this makes it for newbies?? i dunno? last year there were only about 10 entries so the chance of winning is quite high (if you feel upto having your work / personality / friendships ripped apart and analized on vjforums :))

I was trying to get an idea from those who organise it (I presume the poster is one of those) if it was aimed at new or experienced VJs.
Also a note to all submitting. This really is for orignal content creators. They are likely to put the winners on a DVD, etc and the sampling becomes your problem then for copyright issues, etc.

although i agree that original content is probably better for this comp., exceeda's winning entry from two years ago was heavily sampled

Ok, lets clear these up.
1. The form should say DVDs are acceptable too, apologies for that. DVD entries WILL be accepted.
2. Original content is best as sampled stuff will limit what we can do with the winning entry.
3. The competition is aimed at discovering new talent. As you point out in the VJ category you cannot really distinguish between new and established talent by whether they are signed or not. Therefore all entries are welcomed, particularly by relatively new VJs, but ultimately the competition will be judged on merit.
Any other questions please ask. Also if anybody knows of any other good VJ forums could you let me know please?
Thanks very much
K

OK then it will be judged by fellow VJ critics on merit too.

Yeah, I'm pretty new to it all, which is why it is being judged by Addictive TV not me. I'm a member of that Yahoo group but it doesn't have a place to put notices up about competitions like this forum does. Nowhere else you can think of?
Also, I should have said yesterday, the competition is only open to UK based VJs.

dude, there are always competitions that are only open to "US residents only".
So there's one which is UK only for once, deal with it.

I think it has been made clear that this is for UK only .. if you look on the diesel site they might be running comps in other countries (didn't actually go and look but it did ask what country I was in for the u music site access, so i'm assuming they are doing something in some other countries) ..
Otherwise, I think it will be better to write to diesel in your country and pester them to start running a diesel-u-music award for there..
as this is essentially a promotional thing for Diesel, what you'll probably find is that diesel either have a seperated uK operation, or their pr for the uk will be run by someone else at least .. good ideas will move around the company, but why would the us diesel take the risk until they can see it has worked in the uk? It is to some extent - DJ Yoda & Mylo have both come to prominance from winning diesel-u-music and I would think this has got diesel some press .. so perhaps diesel in other countries will latch onto it as well..

Diesel U Music was started in the UK 5 years ago. It has been such a success here that it is now run in the US, Belgium, Japan, Switzerland. I'm sure there is information on the net in each of these countries about their competitions.
I work for a specialist music PR firm that looks after the competition in the UK.
