Does anyone have any experience of creating midi drum triggers?
I heard that its possible to solder jacks onto an evolution midi keyboard? Does anyone know if this is true?
Has anyone played with any of the paia constructions? Whats the latency like?
How about the doepfer CTM64 unit?
Does anybody use any triggers in their own work?

If you want to start soldering and making your own midi control stuff I would recommend http://www.ucapps.de this is a whole site dedicated to making midi controllers with full firmware support, and PCB support. There is even a mid drum machine extension.
It is quite full on but if you take it one step at a time, it is less daunting.

You can make your own MIDI drum pads pretty easy from a piezo and a practice drum pad. You will need something to convert to MIDI though, the easiest would be a MIDI drum trigger, Akai and Yamaha made some.

You might try looking into an actual midi drum device (ie Roland "SPD" series) where you can use the existing pads that are built into the device as well as input drum triggers (yes, even with a piezo mic)

Thanks LEV, but I think I want to spend as little money as is humanly possible, I either want to utilise something I already have or spend less than ?150.
I reckon the pads are really the cheapest things to make, something like 50p from maplins.
I noticed on the paia site that they allow you to download the ROM for their drum brain. So that you can put it into your own chip.
Is this easy to do?
