Hy @ ALL

i decide my own to buy a new capture-Hardware with the ability to capture in good quality to mpeg1,2 and avi but also to convert back to vhs

what is better from data rate speed and quality and other points of view

a normal graphics card with BT 878 chipset ???? ( needs fast cpu i think)

a PCI-Video-Card with Hardware MPEG-Encoder-Chipset

an external converter box via firewire

or an external converter-box via USB 2.0 like the new DAZZLE DVC 150

Please post your opinion abuot it

thnx riesso

Pffff... I really think those who are tired to answer questions should skip them or at least give a link to an existing thread. Take your advice and do a search Meierhans, the specific question riesso asked hasn't been answered already.

there r usually quite good articles on various capture techniques on www.vcdhelper.com but it seems to be down at the moment, so i can't give u a definitive link.

anyway if ur want to hear my opinion
i'd go for an external firewire convertor box for maximium connectivity and flexibility ...

My advice is to save the $200-$300 for a converter box and put it toward buying a DV camera or deck.
Most of the new cameras will work as a pass-thru for DV, allowing you to capture directly from an analog source.

The exception to this would be if you are heavily interested in burning DVDs. Then, investing in a capture card with a better focus on MPEG2 would be your focus. Unless you're using a laptop, I'd focus on the cards from companies like pinnacle. You should be able to get something for a little more money that would be much more stable than an external solution.

Sorry didn`t read close enough. I just came from...
yesterdays capture thread (http://http://www.vjforums.com/showthread.php?threadid=1130) and there is so much written about capture devices.
There are also boards that are discussing these themes very close.

Generally for those without the 200 $ just for capture hardware:

If you want to do live capturing (like Resolume / Vjo can do) get a Bt878 - it will run fast and relieable as its directly PCI.
USB Devices like the one from Haupauge also do work, but there are still some driver problems with some VJ softwares.

If you want to capture full-res you will get into the fight with the interlaced lines.
You can get nearly get rid of them by using VirtualDubs deinterlacer.
So in fact you can capture good quality with standard TV cards

For Output get a ATI Radeon (good graphics card + superb video out without black borders) or a scan converter.

This is the cheapest solution. ---

You can also go for more prof like the Canopus ADVC-100

Its just that when i get the feeling people don`t take their 20 minutes to search google, forums and vjcentral before they post.......
sorry if you ate something others should have been eaten before

yes, i find that quite annoying too, but you must admit, it starts smelling funny when somebodies keen of critising somebody for something he didn't manage to do himself - checking the data properly.:D
