After discussing this with a couple of people I would like to put forward the possibily of a VJ Wiki. It would allow us to have far more of a complete dictionary of all things VJing. At the moment VJForums is a solid home of all things discussed but it can be a pain to wade through the threads to find answers or information on a subject.
VJ Central has something like a wiki in the articles section but individuals other than the original poster can't improve or correct entries is time.
A good example would be product info - say the new H-400HD, it would be good to have a product page with what information we've got so far and as more comes arround it can be improved - not reviews but it can include links to outside articles and forum posts.
The articles/reviews section is still relevent with how to's and so forth but the wiki could allow the sharing of more a central page for each subject.

I think more than anything it would be improving the dictionary that is already there and opening up to each others knowledge.... There's free wiki hosting out there but I would assume it could be added to the VJCentral server as its not much more than a SQL database and PHP + some work setting it up.
Thoughts?

I think its already confusing enough having vjc AND vjf, wouldnt it be better to put more work into refining the way the search works linking relevant threads to questions and having the glossaries more prominent,
being a code-noramus i dont know whether its possible, but it would be nice if the glossary linked to thrads,
so like you look up scanconverter to find its definition, then click on that totake you to all the threads about scannies.

we could all make things easier by thinking a bit before naming new threads, for example, i just read the thread, called "VDUB" but it's actually about time stretching in Vdub, so a thread title that would help someone who needs the info to find it would be...
"Time stretching in VirtualDub"
would it be hard to have an extra box in make new thread, where we put in keywords that search could access?

then if greenhorns write a post with a title thats not really appropriate, the forum host can just pop in a few keywords to make it come up in search properly.

Wow, the keywords thing could really be an improvement. Dunno how responsible the various hosts would be about putting them in there.... The "vote for this thread" thing was a way to sort by importance, but flamewar threads generally get the highest ratings....

Many of the "definitions" on VJCentral are bogus (http://www.vjcentral.com/faqs/view/id/1572.). Many of the reviews are just press releases and a bunch are "holds" from someone who always intended to go back and write a review later.

I suggest the wiki (if created) be the ongoing work of a small commitee of editors, with general membership able to email (or form) suggestions.

FYI -- there is a build-in wiki module in the VJC script. It's extremly basic though.
