And what I could figure out so far is, that I need some kind of video mixer (vm) hardware, don't I ?
And this is, where I need your help!
 What functions should a good vm have?
 Are there vm's whic are capeable of crossfading between two (analog or/and digital) videosignals in realtime?
Please, help me find a good mixer...
btw: is a Panasonic Digital AV Mixer WJ-AVE7 for EUR 160 .- a good deal?

havent had any experience with that model but panasonics, with a few exceptions (mx1) are pretty much top dogs of the mixer world, but the avseries is not as good as the mx series and the 7 is the second bottom of the range of panny mixers.
as to the price, sounds about right, maybe a little expensive but im kinda guessing here, but i figured if time is critical you cant wait til someone with direct experience wanders by

160euros is expensive for an AVE7 ?? that's, like, ?100. right? where can i get one? :)
i'm just starting out too. i've had to hire an mx50 a couple of times but i'm pretty skint and just want a cheap, decent mixer with fast response.
any ideas on where's the best place in the UK (or more specifically Northern Ireland)? ebay seems to be talking about ?200 odd (~300EUR) for an AVE5.
cheers,
skitz

if he wants to save money
he should get the ave7 instead of the mx30, cause they're quite the same ;)

cheers mate. not a lot of money to start out, to be honest tho. i think an ave5 at about ?200 (ebay) is about my price range until i get a couple of gigs behind me. may be able to push a bit more (another hundred maybe), but not a whole lot.
everything i've done in the past has been with bits begged for, stolen and borrowed (and occasionally hired). atm i'm about to buy a second dvd player, (i just ordered a dvd writer too). only gear i have is an svhs panasonic deck(AG-7330), a dvd player, resolume on a laptop and a vjamm dongle that i'll get goin if i can borrow another laptop off some1 :)
need to shell out on a mixer (obviously), some switches, a distro amp, a rack (and rack bits and bobs) etc. so it's gonna be an expensive month :)
i've a stack of non-linear stuff, tho, so i plan on pre-recording a load of dvds.
i said a lot of this already when i was licking up to you in this thread (http://www.vjforums.com/showthread.php?threadid=1328) :)
oh, i'm in glengormley btw. where abouts are you exactly? do u play anywhere local regularly?

pal mixers are not rarer than NTSC - you just get less of them on ebay coz ebay is a us thing
pal mx 50 should cost no more than ?1750 (at that price you can get one from a second hand av company with a warrenty)
mx30 no more than ?800
mx20/ av55 is ?700 NEW (so should be less than ?500 used)
Av7 should be less than ?300
Av5 less than ?200
Mx 12 less than ?200
Mx 10 less than ?150
these prices are top wack
remember most people selling a video mixer brought it for editing a long time ago - they mostly haven't used it for a while and they don't see its value as a live tool - its mearly an outdated edit suite that they rediscovered in there loft
mixers bought from vjs will genraly be battered compared to mixers from a carefull home video geek

as new host of the newbies forum it occured to me that what might be useful to go with the reviews of the mixers at vjcentral would be some kind of table so they can be compared easily, just the main things like no./type of inputs, keying type price size
id do it myself but i only know the mx50/mx10 and dvm1000,
maybe our resident guru of all mixers could find time to knock one up? :)

Yeah that was the premise behind the mixer shoot out that we were discussing AGES ago, but never got around to doing. Would be good to see and I'll help by filling in the units I know :)
