Hello!

When rendering a movie to a quicktime .mov with sorenson3 codec, I got an error message.. "adding to disk" "bad media" "I/O" (i don?t recall the exact error message..). After several other tries with the same settings, I thought I?d change the settings. So now I tried to render a Microsoft .avi format with Cinepak codec. It worked, but the quality of the movie was too bad to use (I want to put it on a VHS tape..).
Next thing I tried was an .avi with no compression. But I got an error message, saying there was not enough free disk space.. although there are over 40gb free on my disk... So I decided to use Microsoft DV codec with 85% compression. But once again.. not enough disk space.

If anybody could help me with that I would be really really happy, because I have been rendering for 3 days now and I?m already getting sick of it ;-)

Thank you all in advance,
greetings,

Hmmm,
Gobo, you can also use cinepak for QT, and when doing so, use the best quality settings...if just outputing to VHS, that should give you good enuf quality, unless you are starting out with an absolutely low rez clip, or a clip that has been thru the ringer to begin with...
You could also give the Mjpeg codec a try...

The more you add fx's or manipulate a low quality clip with AE, the worst it gets... You should always try to keep clips you are going to manipulte in at least DV codec quality or above...I use the animation codec for good temporal quality if I am going to do more things to it after making the clip initially...

hope this helps...

weird. is it a huge project/comp? i've had AE run out of RAM while rendering some stuff [when there was no logical reason for it!], but don't recall getting a disk space error like you're describing.

maybe fill us in on some specifics about the composition you're trying to render & how you're going about it.

also, if you own premiere or another edit prog, would you be able to adjust the work area in your AE comp & render out in smaller segments? 'cuz maybe you could render several small chunks with a DV codec (or as loss-less as you need) & then reassemble the chunks in premiere...

hmmm 4 or 5? i'll check the prob out is there a scratch disk setting like in photoshop? and how much RAM do you have (you can play with it around the 128 methinks... i'll check it out strange problem!!

if you're running in win98 and the composition renders larger than 2GB you'll get a disk space error. Use win2k or winXP!

hi all!

well thanks for your answers.. after i re-installed win2000 it still didn?t work out but then i chose to render the movie to another disk.. and it worked! i don?t know why- because i haven?t experienced any problems with the disk i used before, but i?m really happy now ;-)

i didn?t use any effects in the composition, all i did was adding basic text and changing the transparency of the clips (fade in/out)... and the project is about 29 minutes long.. the rendered movie has about 5 gb... so i still wonder :alien: but thank god i solved it anyways...
