Im wondering how often thoes it happen that you get a full on mix supplyed by one of the sponsors of the event.
Im doing a corporate event in a few days, of course projecting logos of the sponsors and organiser is manadatory. Right now im in the progress of animating jpgs that im used to get from the sponsors, but balantines seems to be ahead of time. They dont supply the usual jpeg or tv ad but a 60 minute clip that is clearly produced in a vj fashion, from content to style.
Seem as tough balantines culd be a wise option when seeking sponsors for events.
Im wondering how often this happens, who else has this experience?
I know that BMW did a similar thing last jear, it was mentioned here.
Lets make a list...

Never had the pleasure to receive a loop that is decent enough to be played. We always get loads of shit.

I have never seen any yet but then again most approach me with writing something new. The biggest problem when I do work for Corp clients see getting involved with all the 'brand police' at the company.
E.g.
- Use the attached EPS for shape. Remove the BP type and just use main logo shape."
- Colors: Either keep the exact colors -or- you can replace the colors with shades of grey or white. Do not change colors to a different palette.
- Animation; The one rule that the brand folks had is that after the animation is complete, the logo must return to it's original shape. It cannot explode or break apart?if it is broken apart or zoomed or altered during animation, it must return to its original form at the end of the animation.
"
and that is a simple one.
A 60 minutes mix sounds a bit much. Try and get them to agree for you to design new stuff or them. Ideas like intergrating the event with the sponsers in an animation. The money is far better for content creation for such events then doing the VJing.

Yeah it's great when you sit down with the sponsor to chat about this and ideas that you will realize, and the fucker goes ahead and steals the ideas to produce them poorly with someone else.
This is something that has been done to use once, hated the brand ever since, never commited the same mistake again.

I have some sponsor content but it was all jpeg and bmp, including Ballentines. We had to design our own content. We were not fortunate enough to get a full on mix. If you want to swap any sponser content let me know. I have some orginal clips in flash and avi.

For the WEST Club Culture Tour 2005 I got a DVD with 30 minutes corporate visuals.
What I did was that I took them all through After Effects to spice 'em up a bit. Then I burned a new DVD and mixed that live into my visuals. At least sometimes.
;-)
The original DVD sucked. Just some cheap animations. But I guess they paid way too much money for that DVD.

The idea of the whole show is bollywood, so im producing content for that. The company that hires me is a huge newspaper so i dont get to talk to sponsors directly and so dont plan to do anything out of the ordinary for them, just a bit of motion. Actualy the party is tomorow and im still waiting for some materials. I only hope that they dont bring them on the event, wich is not so unusual in my experience.

marlboro provided us with pretty nice vj style clip at bedrock moscow party. it was 3 minutes long but suitable for much longer run as graphics background. i created and have run several compositions in vjo adding animated logo to live cam footage and making it look nearly the same as that clip, so marlboro people were completely happy with overall visuals [even recorded 5-10min of that performance to use as a demo example for future events]
bacardi sometimes gave long mixes [20-40 minutes] but the quality is usually pretty basic, so we used only short pieces.
once there was funny case when i had power cut from my portable dvd player and it started flashing red message "low power!" right in the middle of red-white-black bacardi logo on the screen - and it looked exactly the same style as if it was part of the logo ::] thanks god sponsors haven't noticed that 'enhancement' of their ad ::]
funny idea about returning logo in original shape; reasonable for short clips, but unusable for vj performance - how does one decide at which point of time should the logo look original ::] well at least sometimes..
what usually disturbs much more is numerous limitations on visuals for tobacco companies [even on live vj mixes] - no children, no nature, no people under 30, etc. plus medical warnings for 30sec every 3 minutes - hardcore conditions

Quite right too - can't say I'd be happy to use tobacco sponsorship - we had the opportunity to have two big LED screens last year in Prague in a Big Chill Tent, unfortunately, they were paid for by some cigarette manufacturer, and not one of us had any qualms about saying "no thankyou". Horses for courses I guess.

Great ad marlboro and bacardi to the list of companies who have grasped the concept.

Well actually you should NEVER destroy the logo. You CAN play with it but never intend that you are destroying it. Destroying the brand? That's bad! This is for any brand, basic communication "theory"...
no children, no nature, no people under 30, etc. plus medical warnings for 30sec every 3 minutes - hardcore conditions [/B] Well that's more strict than here. Here it is no children, and nothing that could imply death ordiseases (like hospitals). Not much else.

I misread that as 60 seconds - 60 minutes !
thankyou, I'll be at the bar if you need me.
Oh, and blow up logos as much as you like, the client will be too p&ssed to remember.

i'll animate it if you pay me to! if you give me a jpeg and expect me to animate it for free then you'll get a still jpeg on screen (if your lucky)
NEVER do corp logo animation for free - it should not be included in the cost of your VJ performance - it is an extra and they can damn well pay for it. (err so what if they are sponsering the event - will the DJ be producing corperate jingles to drop into his mix?)

I'm lucky enough if I get Jpegs or bmaps here.... I was doing a party for a famous champagne house and they provided me with scans from a magazine....
Best I ever had was when I did the party for the IFC Skyscraper last month. I was allowed onto the roof to film the HK skyline which was just stunning.....
I always charge a pre-production fee for corporate visuals - build it into your cost, its only professional.
1 gig that I ve turned down on ethical (my ethical) grounds - which was to launch flavoured alcohol-gas shots here in HK.
Really not my bag at all.......

i always get an idiot next to me with a video mixer and a dvd
when he wants, he cut me off and put the Heineken dvd :grrr:
last time i have a little conversation about this with the person who made the party,
finaly the dvd of heienek was pluged into mi tv in card,
and every 30 minutes they want that damn dvd,
i chromakey the bottle with a live cam ( by fire-wire ) that pointed the dj.
they love it  , but it is very annoying

Take a look at my first demo in my web site, where the face of the girl appear. FRomk the half to the end is just manipulated corporate stuff for Lucky Strike and some other sponsors. Some one called me a long time ago the "Andy Warhol" of the visuals because corporate stuff is what I like to do the most.
If you are running out of time, load the logo in to Armatic and let the software do the rest
