Ok folks, this is a question for somebody who knows about 'proper' lighting (i.e. I haven't got a clue). I've been offered, and am buying, an optikinetics solar 250 to add to my rig. I do mostly psych stuff for bands so this is an ideal machine, and with loads of effects goodies it will complement my lcd projector.
My question is this; how do I fade the output of it? I'm assuming I'll have to buy some sort of dimmer, but I haven't the foggiest idea where to start/what to look for.
I understand how the Opti works, but it's the control side of it that's got me a bit stumped. Help!

With extreme difficulty! The optikinetic projector solar 250 has no specific dimming ability. Neither does it have any form of external control. Although there are accessories that allow other stuff to be done (eg mirrors for scanning etc) these are a bit pricey. The opti's were built to be left. If you have anymore questions or want to have a play with an opti, we have 5, so pm me.

I have been using Optikenteics stuff for years now. Not really a VJ tool but still a good addition to your kit list. I have been making custom effects for these units and there big brother the 575 with a solar system (dmx gobo changing unit). One thing I will say about Opti stuff is that it is not very sturdy. The amount of effects that have fallen out of projectors during gigs! When this happens this is a good opportunity for you to try and make some of your own custom effects.
